Week 139 Sketch #10

For our final challenge this month, it's sketch time again at "Less is More" and we have yet another super simple one for you from the talented Jen!
Once more Lizy is joining in this week.

We're sure the ideas will come popping with this one!

This first one I've made is using Pleasant Poppies, and I made a frame using 2 framelits. The sentiment is from Express Yourself all from Stampin Up

This second one is made using Christmas Collectibles and More Merry Messages. I heat embossed the bauble in gold and the sentiment in Cherry Cobbler. I also heat embossed the edges of the circle panel and the card blank to give definition while keeping the card very CAS. I fussy cut the sentiment to overhang the panel.

Chrissie
Here is a little musical bird from A Day for Daisies, coloured with watercolours and Inktense pencils, then glazed with Anita's 3D Glaze and a little Glamour dust added to his eye area. The sentiment is computer generated. The background is lightly dusted with ink, using an ink duster brush.

Here I have been playing with my Silhouette once more. I cut out the frog in light green card, then stamped splats on him with Versamark and clear embossed. I then inked him with a variety of green Distress Inks, using sponge daubers, before adding his eyes and mouth. The eyes are the scrap from some die cuts and the mouth is part of a letter Y from one of my sets of alphabet dies. I then clear embossed him a couple of times.
The background circle is embossed with a Sizzix embossing folder and the sentiment is from Hero Arts.

One Layer ShowCASe

For our ShowCASe this week, many submissions had to be disregarded as they omitted to observe the ONE LAYER criterion!
I think that some crafters must have seen on sites like Paper Playful, that the focus of the challenge was Get Well and simply submitted their cards without either knowing that our challenges are ALWAYS Clean and Simple, or not reading the post.
However the ones we have chosen are decidedly one layer and decidedly clean and simple!
Just love these Acid Drop images

What an amazing background!

Such delicate use of colour on these flowers!

Sarah
Love how the slice is looking down at the sentiment! What fun... enough to cheer anyone!
Thanks so much everyone.
Please display the LIM Showcase badge with pride!

See you tomorrow for our new challenge!

Week 138 Theme

It seems that the One Layer Challenge seems to catch out lots of crafters... regulars as well as those new to "Less is More". Last week was a case in point, where there were several submissions not adhering to the one layer rule!
However there were some fabulous cards as our next ShowCASe will prove!

Jen is taking a hiatus for a couple of weeks as she is snowed under with things other than crafting and has asked her very good friend Lizy to be a Guest Designer in her stead. I'm sure that you are all familiar with Lizy's fab contributions to our challenges each week.
Thanks Lizy!

Our theme this week is to use
FELT or FABRIC

There are many ways of incorporating either or both of these elements and still keeping the card Clean and Simple!

I found these little, felt, simplistic flowers from Stampin' Up when rummaging in a drawer in my craft cupboard. (Although they could easily be made using small circle dies.) The stems were stamped with the edge of a piece of thick card.
For this card, I made the sentiment on the computer using the text box process as shown in a previous LIM tutorial and then arranged them to fit in the Framelit shape. To do this, I cut my shape from a piece of card, then held it over the computer  screen to see how the arrangement worked, adjusting the position of the words as necessary. I use Word 2007 for word processing and have found that if I increase the size of the screen in the View menu to 105%, the size on the screen is pretty close to a sheet of A4.

This piece of card is being held flat against the computer screen!

The felt butterflies were die cut, first sticking some double sided tape of the back felt, before running the dies through the machine.
There are more examples on my personal blog this week, plus a tutorial for a folded fabric flower.  DO drop by to take a look!

Lizy

I am so happy to be joining is as a guest designer this week... Here are my creations

My first card used the All Dressed Up Framelits from Stampin Up to cut out the felt and make this fabulous dress.  The sentiment is also from Stampin Up.

For my second card I have used the stamps and dies from the festive flurry set from Stampin Up.  The paperare Winter Frost designer stack, the sentiment from Teeny Tiny Sentiments.  It's finished with a Frosted Finish embellishment.

Week 137 OLC Get Well Soon

It's everyone's favourite this week... One Layer Week and hopefully this is an easy theme.
Get Well Soon

Firstly I'm sorry but I only have one card this week.. My mojo is slowly coming back but I'm playing catch up at the moment.  I have used a super cute image from Pink Petticoat which comes with the sentiment underneath already.  It's printed onto Pistachio card stock from Stampin Up and then I have simply added liquid pearls to give it some dimension.

Firstly I would like to apologise for my lack of comments over the last couple of weeks, but I have been enjoying a cruise to the Baltic, calling at Stockholm, Tallinn, St Petersburg, Helsinki, Warnemunde, Copenhagen and Kristiansand. It was a wonderful trip but, the internet on the ship was expensive and slow and I was also quite busily occupied most of the time. I hope to be back up to speed this week!

For this card I used the Framelit die as a template to shape the sentiment (which is straight) on an acrylic block. The stamp was then applied within the embossed arch, then the image was stamped afterwards. As ever I have a problem remembering the make of the stamps!

These Stampin' Up stamps, although retired are some of my favourites. As these are two step stamps, I keep a piece of acetate already stamped with the coloured part of this card, in the box with the stamps to use with my stamp positioner. It saves having to stamp one each time I want to use the set!
The sentiment is from Art Impressions.

Week 136 Colour Challenge

Wow we had some fabulous entries last week for our Penny Black Plays along challenge and will announce the winner of the Penny Black prize in the next few days as well as the August winner.
It's a new month which means a new sponsor and this month is the ever fabulous

Ribbon Girl

As it's the first week of the month it's time for a new colour challenge.  This month we have a very dramatic inspiration photo for you where the main colours are Dark Green and Rust.

Update: Please note we have removed the photo after finding out that it was a famous picture from national geographic from 1985.  We found the photo on pinterest where there was no reference to this. We are very sorry if any one has been offended.  You can find the story here.

The colours for this challenge are Dark Green and Rust.

I recently purchased a Silhouette Portrait cutting machine and the sentiment on this card was one of my learning experiences! In fact this card employs four techniques for cutting... trimmer (for the panel) dies (for the pennants) punch (for the flowers) and Silhouette ( for the sentiment) the only ting I didn't use was scissors!

For this I stamped a Distress pad onto an acrylic block, dropped on a few sprinkles of Perfect Pearls and then spritzed gently with water before stamping! The flowers are from Unity, coloured with a Marker pen. The sentiment is from Hero Arts.

Jen

My first card uses the leafy accents from Clearly Besotted and stamped in always artichoke and cajun craze from Stampin Up.  The sentiment is also from Clearly Besotted.

For my second card I use the same ink colours but the card is more subtle.  The stamp set is from Stampin Up and I used the markers to add the different colours.
