Week 145 OLC Thanks

Morning... It's everyone's favourite challenge this week...
One Layer Cards.
This week we have a simple one for you
Thank You

Just one card for me today as I'm off on holiday on Monday diving in Egypt and have not had much time to craft or do much else this week!
I've used the new "Geometric Style" set from Clearly Besotted... I just love this set so much!!
The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp and I have used black Versafine ink onto Lucky Limeade card stock from Stampin Up
I'm sorry if I haven't managed to visit you all in the last couple of weeks I'm hoping I catch up on life over the next few weeks and get back into a routine.

Chrissie

Here I have used one of my favourite techniques...masking off a section of card, and then using an emboss resist technique. I love getting inky with my sponge daubers.
This is an image from Unity stamps with a sentiment from Art Impressions. I used Distress inks in Scattered Straw, Wild Honey and Rusty hinge with just a touch of Vintage Photo.
This one is an attempt at Zentangling!
The first one I tried had better patterns, but then I smudged the sentiment with a rogue patch of ink on the stamp which I didn't notice! Again I masked off a section before beginning to stamp. The flowers were also masked. I have decided that maybe zentangling is not my finest technique!
It seems that the one layer challenge no longer sends crafters into fits of the hab dabs and some wonderful cards appear. We can't wait to see what turns up this week!

Week 144 Fireworks And September Winner

It's a new month which means a new colour challenge and a new sponsor!  This month we are delighted to be sponsored once again by Pink Petticoat.

We have a slightly different colour challenge for you.  We want to see how our photo inspires you and see cards that have ...
Dark background with a splash of colour(s)

This is the card I made for my lovely friend Mandi (she who created "Less is More" with me) whose birthday is today!
Happy Birthday Mandi! We hope you have a lovely one!
I used a die from Impression Obsession, cutting it in several fireworky colours and mixing them up into the black die cut card. I got in quite a pickle sorting out which hearts would fit where!
For the sentiment, I cut 1cm strips of the coloured card and stuck them to a piece of double sided tape and then die cut the birthday word from it.

This one has only a touch of colour... red for the cardinal and the tiniest bit of yellow for his legs.
The trees were cut with my Portrait machine. The sentiment is from Woodware.
I will be at the Craft Show at the NEC on Friday, if anyone else is going that day, it would be great to say Hi!
Just let me know!
Jen

My first card uses the photo not only for colour inspiration but for the design too.  I simply used a black card base and added a heart of colourful buttons from brights collection at stampin up

My second card uses embossing paste and a stencil and then bright blue glitter.  I have simply added some pearls and a sentiment from pink petticoat.

We are also sorry we forgot to post the September winner.....

Gina of Inky Bits!

Congratulations you've won.... if you email us we can sort out your prize

Winner....

Week 143 Recipe

Good morning everyone! Another Saturday, another challenge.
For our recipe this week, we'd like to see
String or Twine
Jen

I really am on the last minute for everything this week... It's been one of those where I need longer days so I just have one card for you for the moment :-(

I've used some dotty card from Anna Marie for my card base... I love spotty card and then after using the curved edge die from Simon Says Stamp I have wrapped the crumb cake card stock with red twine from the ribbon girl.  It's finished off with a sentiment from LOTV and some cheery lynn holly leaves.

I'm hoping this week will be a lot less chaotic and I'll have some crafting time

I made these twine flowers some time ago and I'm hoping that some kind person will be able to remind me where I came across the tutorial, as in true senior vein I don't remember.., I believe it may have been via our LIMette Gillian's  (Made with Sparkle) blog, but I looked there and couldn't find it.
Gillian has given us the link... thanks Gillian... here it is!

I used Stampin' Up's twine which is just perfect for this technique.
The sentiment is a die cut from Cuttlebug's Olivia alphabet. The stems are some just stalks from another die!

I used a flat knot for this one. I first saw how to construct it here. Barbara is a consummate crafter and her tutorial is great.
I was using scraps for this one... small piece of paper from Pink Petticoat, and scraps of kraft card.
The sentiment is from Paper Smooches.

Couldn't resist this pair of legs!

Week 142 Theme

What wonderful witches we saw last week.
Once more there were several submissions which had forgotten or overlooked the One Layer Card week rule, but this week that doesn't necessarily apply, although they are always welcome at LIM.
For our theme this week we have chosen
TREES
It doesn't matter what kind of trees, but we would like to see a little more than just leaves!

This card shows a couple of ways of adding Gilding flakes. The Penny Black tree was stamped in Versamark and then sprinkled with Stamp 'n' Bond. After heating, the flakes were adhered and then burnished with a scoochy or whatever the little scrubby things are called.
For the sentiment, I added the flakes in a different way. I put some double sided sticky paper onto the front side of the card before die-cutting the letters. Once cut, I peeled off the backing and then dropped the letters into the tub of flakes. Once more they were burnished with the scrubby thing. Sadly the picture doesn't do justice to the fab shine one the card.
For this one I printed some freebie download trees from Simply Cards and Papercraft mag onto scraps of DP from my left-over drawer. In fact the papers look more similar once printed as this version has text on too. I simply varied the size and cut out the trees adding a little Stickles to each one.
The sentiment is computer generated in a font to match the text on the trees.
There are a few more cards on my personal blog.

My first card uses a fabulous Stampin Up stampin in hero arts shadow ink and simply stitched around the edges.  The sentiment is the from the same set.  The shadow inks blend into the paper you use to give a smooth ink effect.

My second card uses tiny trees from waltzing mouse stamps.  I used the same colour shadow inks for the tree but onto crumbcake card stock. The spotty paper is from anna marie designs.

Week 141 One Layer Witches and Wizards

WOW everyone loved last weeks White Christmas challenge and this week it's everyone's favourite week.. One Layer Cards.  This week we have decided to have a theme of
Witches & Wizards (Or little monsters too!!)

Jen

Just one card from me this week as this week has gone by far too quickly .

I've simply stamped Abracadabra from Lili Of The Valley and coloured the cutie in with promarkers and copics.

Here I have used one of Bugaboo's digital images. I just love this pair of legs!
It's coloured with Copics and then glazed with Anita's 3D Gloss. The background has been twinkled with Glamour Dust. The sentiment is computer generated.
This cutie of a monster is another digital image... this time from A Day for Daisies.
This was coloured with watercolour pencils and a water brush. The sentiment is from a retired SU set. I bought this as a single stamp on eBay so I don't know the name of the set it was originally part of.

It's so easy to get wrapped up in the theme of the challenge and forget about the One Layer part, so remember to stamp directly onto the card base and only add minimal embellies... if at all!

We would also like to encourage you to visit fellow participants in our challenge... even if you only manage a few, it means so much to receive a few friendly words... that goes for us too!
Have a great week!
